ABOUT THE NORTHEAST NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL (NENC) Established in 1966, the NENC is the oldest continually operating neighborhood association in the City of South Bend. The NENC is a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity. MISSION The NENC exists: (1) to promote, without profit to the NENC, social, recreational, cultural, educational, health, safety, legal and other needed community services to the residents of the northeast side of South Bend, Indiana; and (2) to develop partnerships between the residents of the northeast side of South Bend, Indiana, and intercommunity relations with neighboring communities, including universities, colleges, businesses, religious institutions, government agencies, and any other interested parties. (NENC) NORTHEAST NEIGHBORHOOD BOUNDARIES For the purposes of the NENC, the boundaries of the Northeast Neighborhood are: Angela Boulevard and Edison Road on the north; Twyckenham Drive on the east; Jefferson Boulevard on the south; and the St. Joseph River and Michigan Avenue on the west. MEMBERSHIP Primarily, any individual who desires to see the goals of the NENC accomplished and who resides within the boundaries of the Northeast Neighborhood shall be eligible for membership upon paying dues established by the Board of Directors and signing the membership roll. Annual dues for 2011-2012 are $5 per member. Other “friends of the Northeast Neighborhood” who do not reside within the boundaries are eligible for membership if recommended by the Board of Directors and elected to the membership by the existing members of the NENC. NENC ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING The NENC Annual Meeting is generally held in June at a date, time, and location determined by the Board of Directors. NENC OFFICERS & BOARD OF DIRECTORS The NENC is guided by a Board of Directors made up of no more than thirty (30) neighborhood residents and friends of the Northeast Neighborhood. NENC BOARD MEETINGS January through April, the NENC Board of Directors meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm at the Robinson Community Learning Center on Eddy Street. The NENC Board meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30pm at the Northeast Neighborhood Center, the former firehouse on the NW corner of Notre Dame Ave. and SR23. THE NORTHEAST NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER The Northeast Neighborhood Newsletter is published twide a year in January and July by the Northeast Neighborhood Council, Inc. for neighborhood residents, partners, and friends. The Newsletter is printed through the generosity of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Inc. THE NENC FOOD PANTRY The NENC Food Pantry is located in the Northeast Neighborhood Center at 803 N. Notre Dame Ave. Recipients must show proof of residency in the 46617 area and are eligible for monthly distribution.
FOOD PANTRY HOURS: Tuesday 9-11am and 2-4pm Wednesday 2-4pm Friday 2-4pm Monetary and in-kind donations are always welcome. Non-perishable food, toiletries, diapers, and paper products are especially helpful. Donations can be dropped off at the Northeast Neighborhood Center (the firehouse on the corner of ND Ave. & SR 23) during the times that the pantry is open.
